Bus driver saves boy wandering in Cudahy

Jan. 16, 2012 | 8 comments

A 4-year-old boy wandering a busy street in Cudahy by himself early Monday was saved by a Milwaukee County bus driver, police said.

The bus driver noticed the boy walking alone in the 5400 block of S. Packard Ave. - one of the city's busiest streets - at 6:19 a.m. Monday and brought the boy onto the bus, Cudahy police Sgt. Chris Blunt said.

The boy had walked away from his grandparents' home in Cudahy and was fully clothed and uninjured, police said.

"Our cops - that's a common thing - they bought him breakfast. I think they bought him McDonald's," Blunt said. "The officers that dealt with the kid said he was a very nice kid, very clean cut. And he seemed to be very intelligent. I don't know of any distress, which is kind of rare."

The officers then took the boy home to his mom.

"Mom was very grateful. I was told mom was emotional," Blunt said.

Police also notified the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare.

The Milwaukee County Transit System said in a news release that they're proud of the driver.

"At the Milwaukee County Transit System we believe it is part of our duty to assist anyone who is in need," the release said.

  1. Driver; Thanks for protecting one of the little people, great for your karma!
  2. Finally a story of good will toward man.
  3. Awesome! Kudos to the driver for being attentive and being sure to do the right thing. Also, strong Kudos to the driver's employer for recognizing they did the right thing and encouraging this sort of behavior. Whatever inconvenience to the driver, bus service, or passengers, if it can potentially save a life, it is well worth it!! I am glad this is the story we got instead of all the terrible alternatives that could have been.
  4. Kudos to the MCTS driver and the Cudahy PD. One question? How did the little fellow manage to get out of the house without the Grandparents noticing?

  5. Excellent job bus driver. You did a wonderful thing and deserve praise. Thank you for being there and doing the right thing. Let's name this bus driver and then give him a reward.
  6. The Milwaukee Police recently did the same thing - except that child have no coat or shoes. But it is a similar story. People were worried about a child wandering.

Thank you to both Cudahy and Milwaukee Police for your work.
  7. 7Fg5Fp Is anybody strong in radio here? We need a colleague who would tell us briefly about the transistor T2. I hope there are radio amateurs here. If it`s not on the subject at all, then I`m sorry. I have to write because I have no choice. PS: if the spelling is not right then also I'm sorry, I'm just 13 years old!....
